Hope
My daughter E’s class has been reading a book called Bud, Not Buddy. Bud is a young African American boy who is growing up during the depression. Clearly, Bud, not Buddy, has a hard life. But when E tells me about the book, it seems to me that Bud’s outlook and perseverance will get him through the difficult times in which he lives.
Tonight, E was working on her homework. Her brilliant teacher asked her to give examples of hope in the book. E’s next question to tackle was “What does hope give us in our lives?”
With E’s permission, I am sharing her response here:
“Hope gives you strength, courage, joy and gives you confidence. Life is easier with hope. And hope can give you a lot. It can give you the courage to stand up to people you don’t like and other problems. Hope can also give you some good things like ideas. Hope teaches you how to love.”
I would just add that hope also gives a big giant lump in your throat and amazing faith for the future.

She's a very smart girl! Just like her Mom. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteOh my, and misty eyes! That is just full of all the qualities you would love your child to be able to articulate, and she absolutely nailed it :) You must be so proud of her!
ReplyDeleteNothing better than to hear the ideas and ideals you've tried to instill, sometimes articulated in ways that take your breath away.
ReplyDelete"Hope teaches you how to love"....such wisdom
ReplyDeletewrapped in young words!
